Food for Thought: You are what You Eat

I get a ton of questions about my high-spirited energy levels, and often bubbly disposition. This is of course not derived from any substance abuse or manic episodes, just to be clear. I find my body obviously functions based on the type of nutrition, or lack of, I put in it. I have been raising my girl’s based on my knowledge of herbalism, holistic wellness, metaphysics, and anything I picked up from my grandmother being an RN for over 60 years. Also, being raised by a culinary chef, my mother, I have established a particular passion for food, cooking, and nutrition. My social media pages are littered in recipes and cute plate arrangements. Pictures, I'm sure have my hungry family, patiently giving me a mommy moment behind camera, while they stare at their dinner getting cold.

It doesn’t take much effort to be honest with yourself and acknowledge that the reason you feel like a melted bowl of ice cream is because you ate one. If your diet mostly consists of cheeseburgers and fries, your body will show you what it's like to carry around the fat content of that burger and your skin may take on the likeliness of an old greasy french fry. I don’t mean these things in a literal sense, but it is quite clear to me that when I choose wholesome nutritious foods, I feel and look vibrant.

Building healthy eating habits and a basic understanding of nutrition is important for everyone. Especially those of us who happen to also be responsible for the health and future dietary habits of our little humans.

I am not telling anyone how to eat or suggesting any diets. But, if all you can manage to put something a little healthier in your mouth next time you eat, you're on a good start.

Nutrients are the main energy source for the physical body. It is important to feed yourself with sustenance that will help your body heal any damaged cells and refuel your reserves to maintain consistent balance in your sleep and active hours. This is commonly referred to as the Circadian Cycle or rhythm. This actually applies to the cycle of light available throughout a 24hr period. Fully matching with the circadian rhythm, one would find sleep between dusk and dawn the next day, waking energized for the hours of light at your disposal.

Mindful Minute:

  • Are you happy with your present eating habits? Why?
  • Is there something you would like to do differently, try something new?
  • Have you tried any diet plans? If so, what did you learn from your experience?
  • How might you improve your health through your nutritional intake?

Seasonal Cleaning: Plan, Purge, Prepare

When Autumn rolls around I tend to get nostalgic for all the cozy aesthetics and comfort of the season, eager to jump straight into my favorite lounge set and start writing out my ' Fall Food Favorites' shopping list!  But then, I catch a glimpse of the reality around me... unsigned school papers and musty laundry mountains, unwashed cookware and an over-worked sponge... this IRS notice of from my boutique flop two years ago. I can easily become lost and overwhelmed by the chaos summer fun and new school excitement left behind. Having three young children, the pressure is on. I am fully aware I will be taking on this battle alone. It's the perfect time to get my household back in order and  prepare our space to be enjoyed as we spend more chilly days inside, with each other. I'm getting into the season with a deep clean of our home and work spaces, a well as our energetic environment. 1. PLAN For me, it must ALL start with planning! I first start out  by printing
